rojava international film festival Los Angeles

About

Together with, 26 countries and 70 cities around the world we are honoring the Rojava International Film Festival with an Opening Night.

The fourth edition of the Rojava International Film Festival was supposed to take place on 13 November 2019. However due to the invasion of northeastern Syria by Turkey, there is uncertainty about its continuity. We are organising this special screening in solidarity with the Rojava International Film Festival here in Los Angeles.

Since 2015, The Rojava Film Commune has worked endlessly for the reappropriation of the image, history, language, and culture of communities in the region. The event this year was planned to be held between 13th-19th November, however there is uncertainty about its continuity due to recent events in Rojava and Syria.

November 13th is the date on which the festival starts every year in Rojava, in memory of the massacre which occurred in Amude, a town in Rojava, where a cinema was burned down in 1960.
